Wrestling

2011-2012 Season
The 2011 - 2012 St. Francis DeSales wrestling team returns 6 former District Qualifiers. They are Tyler Ricevuto, RJ Martin, Jason Allen, Ian Ferguson, Joseph Lyberger and RJ Ball. The returning lettermen are Aaron Melsop, Trevor Brosnan, Connor Golden, and Hunter Walsh. This nucleus of wrestlers gives the team a strong foundation to build upon and continue the Stallion success in wrestling.

This season the team will continue to wrestle some of the toughest competition in the state. This type of schedule has become a staple of the SFD wrestling program in preparing its athletes for post season competition.
A tradition they want to continue.

Making the Team
There are no try-outs. An organizational meeting will be held in the fall.

Practice
Practice begins November 11 and is held weekdays from 3:30-6 p.m. with weightlifting held Mondays and Tuesdays from 6-7 a.m.

Incoming Freshman Activities
Incoming freshmen will receive information regarding summer and pre-season activities for wrestling upon acceptance to St. Francis DeSales HS.

Traditionally, the incoming freshmen will have the opportunity to participate in a summer camp. Coaches are allowed the opportunity by the OHSAA to work with the students for ten practice days. Practices will be coordinated with other coaches in the SFD athletic department in order to avoid multiple conflicts during the summer for multi-sport athletes.

Freshmen will also be able to attend open mats in the summer which is an excellent opportunity for incoming ninth graders to be introduced to the high school system.

During the pre-season, athletes that are not involved in a fall sport will have the opportunity to participate in a preseason weight training and conditioning program. The program is designed specifically for wrestlers to encourage injury prevention while increasing strength, speed and flexibility. Pre-season conditioning is held two days a week starting in early September. It will be held on Monday & Thursday this year.
