2011 Season
In 2011, the St. Francis DeSales softball team made history as the most successful softball team in school history. With the most wins recorded in the history of the softball program, the team was able to win its second straight CCL title, District Championship and a trip to the OHSAA State Final Four. The team was led by five seniors - Amanda Herron (Eastern Michigan University, softball grant-in-aid), Alyson McGinnis (Capital University, golf program), Kelsey Seeds (Ohio Dominican Univerisity, softball grant-in-aid), Courtney Somers (Loyola University), Mary Wickert (University of Notre Dame). More importantly, the team was even more successful in the classroom boasting a team GPA of 3.85.

The 2012 St. Francis DeSales softball team returns 6 varsity letter winners: Seniors Kelsey Albanese (St. Matthias), Bryn Allen (Worthington Christian), Sarah Flint (Heritage), Deonna Jones (St. James the Less), Cassidy Jenkins (Genoa), and Junior Anna Gentile (St. Paul). These returning letterwinners will be joined by a strong support staff of talented and experienced players.

This season, the team will take on one of the toughest schedules in the state of Ohio, including two-time state champion Hebron Lakewood, state champion Poland Seminary, and the Stallions 2011 Final Four Opponent, Keystone Lagrange HS. This type of schedule has become a staple of the SFD softball program in preparing its athletes for post season play. The DeSales softball program has participated in the OHSAA District finals 10 of the last 11 years...a tradition they hope to continue for many years.

Practice

We usually set our practice schedule months in advance. The schedule is very firm, we only change in the event of inclement weather and that an alternative weather schedule is already provided.

Incoming Freshman Activities
Incoming freshmen will receive information regarding summer and pre-season activities for softball players upon acceptance to St. Francis DeSales HS.

Traditionally, the incoming freshmen will have the opportunity to participate in open hitting and practices during the summer. Coaches are allowed the opportunity by the OHSAA to work with the students for ten practice days. Practices will be coordinated with other coaches in the SFD athletic department in order to avoid multiple conflicts during the summer for multi-sport athletes.

Freshmen that participate in the Summer Softball Camp will be placed in a group with other incoming freshmen in order to meet future classmates and they will train with Varsity Coach Julie Barber. The Summer Softball Camp is an excellent opportunity for incoming ninth graders to be introduced to the high school system.

During the pre-season, athletes that are not involved in a fall or winter sport will have the opportunity to participate in a preseason weight training and conditioning program. The program is designed specifically for softball players to encourage injury prevention while increasing strength, speed and flexibility. Pre-season conditioning is held three days a week starting in mid-October and continuing through March.

The St. Francis DeSales softball team has access to an indoor hitting facility on campus. The 220 square foot facility holds two sixty foot pitching tunnels with the ability to section areas off for individual hitting drills and stations. Open hitting opportunities for ninth graders are available during the summer, winter and fall season.

Winter Training Camp
Sunday evenings
February 5 - March 4
Are you looking for an opportunity to sharpen your skills for the 2012 season? The SFD softball program provides a Winter Training Camp for students in grades 3-8. Players attend 5 small group training sessions, 45 minutes in length, in either pitching, catching, hitting or defensive skills. Training groups consist of 3-4 girls per St. Francis DeSales coach and will have 2-3 high school student athletes assisting will drills.
Students are welcome to sign up for back to back skill sessions in more than one area.

Summer Camp
The 2012 Summer Softball Camp will be in early June.
Camp is a full day camp open to all girls that completed grades 2-8.
Camp registrations are available on our website at www.stfrancisdesaleshs.org

Central Ohio Stampede Softball
The coaching staff at SFD hosts a competitive summer program for elementary and feeder school athletes in the DeSales feeder school district.
In 2012, the Central Ohio Stampede will include five total teams in U10, U12, U14 and U16 age groups. Each age group will participate in weekend tournaments and/or league play that emphasizes fundamental skill development in a competitive environment. Athletes will be introduced to the skills and strategies used at the high school level at St. Francis DeSales.
For more information about tryouts for the 2013 team, please contact Varsity softball coach and Stampede Director, Julie Barber.
