2011-2012 Season
The 2011-2012 St. Francis DeSales girls basketball team returns six varsity letter winners from its 2010-2011 roster. Returning seniors Kelsey Albanese (St. Matthias), McKenzie Cook (St. Matthew), Tyler Craig (St. Matthew), and Ninamarie Powell (St. Paul), will help lead their team throughout the course of the year. Other returning letter winners include Juniors Miranda Johnson (St. Matthias) and Aubri Caslin (Clintonville Academy).
This season, the team will play an extremely challenging non-league schedule including competition in the Gahanna Cage Classic Christmas tournament with the likes of Hilliard Davidson, New Albany, and Gahanna. While also competing against Central Catholic League opponents in hopes for their first league title since 2006. With a good nucleus of the team returning and a few under-classman looking to step up and compete for playing time, the Stallions will look to learn from and improve on last year’s regular season and tournament experience.

Freshmen, Junior Varsity, and Varsity
Making the Team
Freshmen, Junior Varsity, and Varsity team tryouts began Friday, October 28th, 2011 and ended Tuesday, November 1st, 2011. Every individual athlete was given equal opportunity to perform and showcase their
skills during this time.
Fall Lifting and Conditioning
The girl’s basketball team began these sessions on Monday, September 12th, 2011. This year the sessions were held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:15-4:45pm. Any girl interested in playing basketball this winter,
and at this time is NOT playing a DeSales fall sport, should be in attendance.
Fall Open Gym
The girl's basketall team began these sessions on Tuesday, September 13th, 2011. This year the sessions were held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6am-7am in the gymnasium.
Practice
Official practices begin on Wednesday, November 2nd, 2011 with the first four days of the season being reserved for tryouts beginning on Friday, October 28th. The Varsity and Junior Varsity teams will practice for approximately one hour and forty-five minutes daily, while the freshman team will practice for approximately one hour and thirty minutes each day.
Incoming Freshman Activities
The St. Francis DeSales girls basketball program offers multiple opportunities for incoming freshmen to get involved, meet future teammates, and improve their individual skills.
During the months of June and July the Stallions participate in a summer league. The league team is open to both incoming freshmen and returning players.
On the weekend, there are opportunities for players to participate in basketball shootouts. The shootouts are held in various collegiate venues in which players will have the opportunity to compete in front of collegiate coaches.
Weight training and open gym sessions for the girls basketball team are held twice a week throughout the summer. These sessions occur in the mornings at St. Francis DeSales High School. During these weight training sessions, incoming freshmen will be introduced to proper technique and fundamental lifting skills from our Strength and Conditioning coach, Mr. Mike Delfino ’96.
The St. Francis DeSales Youth Girls Basketball Camp will be held in the school gymnasium on Monday, June 18th through Thursday, June 21st. Summer camp brochure's are available in the main office or you can download a copy of it through the DeSales Athletic webpage.
Incoming freshmen are encouraged to take advantage of the multiple opportunities held during the summer months. The youth camp, summer league games, weekend shootouts and weight training sessions are all excellent opportunities to meet future classmates, as well as the St. Francis DeSales girls basketball coaching staff.
