Stallion Pride
The purpose of the St. Francis DeSales High school cheerleading program is to promote school spirit, to provide entertainment for the school and community, to promote within the individual good sportsmanship and leadership qualities, as well as help the competitive spirit to further develop personal characteristics such as poise and confidence, and finally, to promote sisterhood and unity within the squad.

The St. Francis DeSales cheerleading squads participate during the football and basketball seasons. All cheerleaders tryout in the spring and will be placed on either the football or the basketball squads at that time based on their individual scores.

Tryouts
An average of 70 young women tryout for the 52 positions available on the St. Francis DeSales cheerleading squad. Tryouts are held in the spring and include four evening clinic sessions as well as an evening of tryouts. Attendance to these sessions are mandatory. During clinics, cheerleaders will learn a dance, chants, and a cheer to perform for the judges at tryouts. Cheerleaders are judged on jumps, tumbling, flexibility, arm motions, spirit, personality, and how quickly they are able to pick up new material. All material is taught by the graduating seniors. Squad announcements are made the evening of tryouts following the completion of all tryouts.

Incoming Freshman Activities
We welcome prospective cheerleaders to come and visit for a day here at DeSales. Please contact Coach Gordon if you have any additional questions or if you would like to set up a meeting.
There will be a mandatory parent meeting prior to tryouts. Information about this parent meeting will be emailed to all incoming freshmen and usually takes place in early spring.
Information about clinics and tryouts will also be emailed to all incoming freshmen. Please look for more information about tryouts and clinics.

Cheerleading Camp
All DeSales cheerleaders (football and basketball), participate in summer camp off school campus. The DeSales community supports Americheer, a cheerleading company based here in Columbus, and attends their residential camp. Camp will be at The Ohio State University and in mandatory. At camp the squad focuses on perfecting skills and learning new material. Cheerleading camp is a great way to meet your team members and bond with one another.

All Cheerleaders and their parents participate in fundraisers to support the program including Stallion Cheer Camp, the SFD Golf Outing, the Friends of the Courtyard, and Casino Royale Night.
