Academics: Computer Science

St. Francis DeSales has been at the forefront of technology education since desktop computers became available in the mid-1980s. Courses are designed to make students proficient in practical and creative software applications for home, school and business, including spreadsheets, presentations and web design. Our computer technology course offerings have spread into many departments as the school opened a second computer lab to accommodate use and research for every department.

Current Issues in Technology

This survey course covers a board range of issues related to technology. The focus is on the possible technological implications of current law, policy, and advances in social networking, internet privacy, and the mobile computing evolution.

Effective Technology

This course will explore new tools and services that are available for 21st Century learners. The class will learn how to use these tools and how to discover new ways to create, consume, and publish work.

The Next Web

This course is centered on analyzing what is being used currently and, more importantly, what will be the web technology used next. The primary themes for thie course will be: the Cloud, location awareness, social networking, social search, personal data management, Ditigal Rights, and subscription music services.

Analysis of Design

This course will examine what can be considered quality technology design work and what types of design should be avoided. Course will anayze design trends and software, hardware, web, and date services.

Technology, History & Economy

This course will take an in-depth look into how technology has affected both our contemporary history and economy. Course will examine the major players in the technology realm.

DeSales High School Productions

This course will be centered around enhancing multi-media productions in the building. Topics covered will be: web design, video production, audio production, public relations, fundraising, and sports coverage.
