Academics: Family and Consumer Science
The Family and Consumer Science Department, consisting of Work and Family Life and Nutrition and Wellness, offers students individualized attention or very small group instruction (no more than 2 or 3- students per/group) which provides the student with a very strong foundation in the BASICS of their respective course subject material. Students, upon completion of these courses, have the basic knowledge and skills necessary to make sound everyday decisions for themselves. They are taught that life and living on your own is a constant learning experience that requires math skills (at the grocery store, living on a budget, paying bills & planning for fixed and flexible expenses, etc.), communication skills, social skills, language skills, creative skills, etc. Student are challenged to apply what they have learned in class, into their various class projects,... and thus take them further into their own adulthood life. These courses teach life skills that are needed and necessary but not always inborn and natural to all.
